About Euro 24
Euro 24, or the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship to give it its official title, is the 17th edition of the European national tournament which began in 1960. The teams play for the Henri Delaunay Trophy, which is named after the Frenchman who first proposed a pan-European tournament in 1927.
The striking tournament logo features the trophy surrounded by 24 colour swathes representing the participating countries. The tournament slogan is ‘United by Football: Vereint im Herzen Europas’ (United by Football, United in the Heart of Europe), and aims to promote diversity and inclusion in the game.
Euro 24 tournament dates
Euro 24 takes place between 14th June and 14th July 2024. There’ll be a total of 51 matches, and with the Noise Euro 24 football predictor game you can guess the result of every single one of them.
There’s a group stage, with six groups of four teams, kicking off on the 14th June. This will be followed by a round of 16 kicking off on 29th June. The quarter-finals take place on the 5th and 6th July, the semi-finals on the 9th and 10th and the final takes place on the 14th July. There’s no third-place playoff in this tournament.
Euro 24 venues
Euro 24 will be the first time the tournament has taken place in Germany since reunification in 1990, although West Germany previously hosted in 1988. The games will take place at in ten venues spread across the country, including Leipzig in the former East Germany:
- Olympiastadion Berlin
- Cologne Stadium
- BVB Stadion Dortmund
- Düsseldorf Arena
- Frankfurt Arena
- Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen
- Volksparkstadion Hamburg
- Leipzig Stadium
- Munich Football Arena
- Stuttgart Arena
The final will take place at Olympiastadion Berlin.
How does Euro 24 work?
The 24 teams will be put into the six groups at a draw in Hamburg on 2nd December. This will use seedings based on their overall European qualifiers ranking. As hosts, Germany qualify automatically and are placed in Group A.
The groups are played as a round robin, with every team playing every other. The top two teams from each group will progress to the round of 16, along with the four best third placed teams, with eight teams eliminated at this stage. The competition is then a knockout format from there on in.
Who are the favourites for Euro 24?
If you are not sure where to start with your football predictor game, the odds can often be a useful guide. Home advantage obviously favours Germany, but it’is France and England who lead the field, both at around 4/1 depending on which bookmaker you look at. Spain and Germany follow at around 7/1, with Portugal close behind.
Euro 20 winners, Italy, who heartbreakingly beat England on penalties in the final, are further down the pack, having failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2022.
